Nutrition Services

Welcome to the Atchison Public Schools Department of Nutrition
Servicesnutrition services. Each day, our staff provides nutritious, quality meals at an affordable price. Students receive meals that are carefully designed to ensure that they have the resrources and energy needed to be successful learners. Breakfast and lunch are offered every day that school is in session.

The Director of Nutrition Services plans meals using USDA Guidelines under the Food-Base Plan and suggestions from students. All meals meet the criteria and regulations of the U.S. Department of Education. Lunch menus are planned with the goal of providing students with one-third of their Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for key nutrients and calories. Low fat alternatives are provided to keep the average number of calories from fat below 30 percent (for more information on nutrition facts, see the Nutrient Database).

In addition to meal planning and preparation, the department coordinates the Nutrition Benefit Program and encourages families to apply for its free or reduced breakfast and lunch program.
